ABSTRACT

Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), also known as primary immune or autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura, is characterized by a decrease in platelet count, prolongation of bleeding time, and diffuse bleeding spots seen on the skin and mucosa. ITP is a common cause of thrombocytopenia and bleeding complications in children and adults. Glucokorticoids, intra-venous immunglobulin, plasmapheresis, and splenectomy have been used for the treatment of ITP. In this case report, anaesthetic management for emergency splenectomy in a patient diagnosed with ITP is presented.
