ABSTRACT

Although medicine is defi ned as both an art and a science, it is also a profession through which one can earn income. Physicians, who are the practitioners of this occupation, are liable to perform their profession according to the laws, similar to other citizens. A lack of legal knowledge cannot protect physicians from liability. It is therefore a must for physicians to be well aware of the rules and regulations for medical practice in their country. In this country, physicians, most of whom work under diffi cult conditions, should know the new regulations in order to safeguard themselves against becoming a “suspect” or “criminal”. With this aim, “the legal responsibilities of a physician”, which are specifi ed in many laws and regulations, are discussed.
