ABSTRACT

Conclusion:

Our data suggest that the apoptotic effect of resveratrol on HEp-2 cell lines may be useful for the treatment of certain types of cancer.

Results:

Our data show that resveratrol induces dose- and time-dependent death of HEp-2 cells, as measured morphologically and by internucleosomal DNA fragmentation assay.

Materials and Methods:

Human Epidermoid Larynx HEp-2 cell lines were cultured and then exposed to different concentrations of resveratrol for va-rious periods. After treatments, apoptotic cell deaths were determined using morphological changes and DNA fragmentation methods.

Purpose:

Resveratrol (trans-3,4’,5-trihydroxystilbene) is a naturally occur-ring polyphenolic compound highly enriched in grapes, nuts, red wine, and a wide variety of food sources. Resveratrol has anti-inflammatory, antioxi-dant, and anticancer properties. In this study, Human Epidermoid Larynx HEp-2 cell lines were used to examine the apoptotic effect of resveratrol.

Keywords:
Resveratrol, Apoptosis, HEp-2.
