ABSTRACT

Results:

Patients mean age is 41.8±10.9 in study group and 41.7±12.5 in control group. 117 patients (%62.2) have bilateral and 71 (%37.8) patients have unilateral mastalgia in study group. 142 (%75.5) patients have non-cyclic and 46 (%24.5) patients have cyclic mastalgia. 38 (%20.2) patients have family history in study group however in control group 30 (%16) patients have family histories. Both in study and control group 4 patients were diagnosed as breast cancer. 73 % of patients with nipple discharge have also mastalgia and 67.5 % of patients with the history of breast biopsy have mastalgia. 57.4 % of patients in study group have fibrocystic disease however 92 patients 48.9 % in control group have normal ultrasonography. Regression tests show that 57.4 % patients with nipple discharge have 2.4 fold, patients with positive physical examination finding have 5.1 fold and patients with biopsy history have 1.2 fold mastalgia finding

Conclusion:

Patients with mastalgia complaint have to be asked for risk factors besides breast ultrasonography. Patients should be informed regarding their mastalgia complaint with an accurate assessment

Methods:

A number of 188 patients consulted to our unit by mastalgia complaints between June 2012 and June 2013 were participated to the study. Also 188 control cases were participated in the same age interval. Patients age, family history, menopause condition, first birth age, menarche, hormone replacement therapy history, nipple discharge, cyclic/non-cyclic mastalgia data, physical examination findings, breast ultrasonography and breast cancer history were asked and recorded retrospectively
