ABSTRACT
The incidence of umbilical hernia in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy was higher in our study than in previous studies. Since the coexistence of the two diseases may cause technical problems, it is im-portant to diagnose umbilical hernia before the operation in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. (Gazi Med J 2012; 23: 59-61)
The records of 886 patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy for symptomatic cholelithia-sis between 2006 and 2012 were investigated
Cholelithiasis and umbilical hernia, which have common risk factors, may cause some technical prob-lems to the surgeon when encountered in the same patient. However, there are only a few studies investigating the incidence of umbilical hernia in patients with cholelithiasis. Our purpose is to define the incidence of umbilical hernia in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy in our clinic, and to discuss the potential problems that can be caused by the coexistence of cholelithiasis and umbilical hernia in the same patient
